Some people think adults should learn practical skills by themselves, while others think they should learn form teachers. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
With ever-increasing competition in today’s society employers think kindly of adults who integrate theory with practice. Meanwhile, it has ignited an ongoing debate as to whether adults should learn the practical skills by themselves or their teachers. Before proposing my opinions, I would like to analyses both assertions.
On the one hand, encouraging youngsters to study by themselves involves a recognition that it enables our students to cultivate a critical thinking and problem solving skills through a self-study process. As there are no teachers when they leave school, the youths have to foster a habit to observe and study from the external world. However, it is undeniable that not everyone has a gift to learn without an appropriate guidance. Some of them even tend to idle away their time by excessive entertainment and lose their patience without a strict supervision.
On the other hand, a teacher who owns productive experience can compensate for this flaw. He is more likely to indicate his students’ shortages and afford them useful comments to learn the practical skills. More importantly, youths’ intense efforts will pay off in a short term, by which they can put their knowledge into practice with an increasing confidence in learning. Someone probably doubts if such a methodology will bring side effect to students and exacerbate their dependence on their teachers. As far as I am concerned, our teachers are supposed to encourage our students to observe and imitate their demonstrations initially rather than tell them the keys immediately. After that, students can express their ideas in a group discussion, in which critical thinking can be cultivated.
Through the analysis above, I am probably safe to draw a conclusion that the collaborative efforts of students and teachers are necessary in a process of learning practical skills. Furthermore, we should have a clear perspective that the supports and guidance from teachers can render them study in an effective way.
