An increasing number of people do not know their neighbors. There no longer has sense of community. What are the possible causes? And give solutions accordingly.
It’s become practically an expected social norm these days to live next to someone for years and never get to know them, and in many cases never even learn their names. Having a neighbor who is your friend can be so wonderful. It means having someone to borrow that cup of sugar from, or to run over and talk to when you just need to vent, or to rely on to pick up your mail when you head out of town. etc. However, a neighbor you don’t get along with can be just as bad as a friendly neighbor is good.
Neighbor problems can arise from any number of reasons; it might be because of noise or traffic. It might be because you hit their garbage can when backing out of your drive. The possibilities are endless, so when dealing with a nasty neighbor, it is important to realize that it doesn’t matter that much what the nastiness is about. We know of a case, for example, where some bad neighbors built a balcony way up on the side of their house which allowed them to look over neighboring fences and see. or rather stare, at what the Jones’s were up to. Nothing illegal and nothing to write a comedy sketch about; but irritating, thoughtless, and maddening just the same.
However creating good neighbors has many benefits. Getting along with neighbors takes common sense. Think of how you get along with friends and family, then apply those principles with your neighbors. The best reason to get along is to enjoy friendship at some level. First and foremost, build trust by being a good neighbor and set the standard by offering help with projects or sharing a cookout. Besides, invite the neighbors inside your house or apartment, even a short visit could build bonds. A simple smile can go a long way in making people feel welcome and make you more approachable. It’s important that your neighbors feel comfortable with you and help establish good community.
It is obvious that people are more protective and less trusting, and it’s not difficult to see why. Though, it undoubtedly will be awkward to cross paths with someone day in and day out without speaking. Even if you and your neighbors do not become the best of friends, having good rapport will make your life a lot easier and more comfortable. So take some time out and start getting to know at least your closest neighbors, no matter how long you’ve ingored them.
